The Begotten Son The scriptures refer to Christ as begotten, but in what sense is He begotten? Christ’s testimony to the Jews was that He was the I Am of the Old Testament, the eternal one without any beginning. Therefore, the scripture phrase “only begotten Son” is not to be understood as His having a beginning of existence. Christ himself denied this. But the scriptures do not leave us in doubt. They tell us plainly that Christ was begotten to the dual offices of royalty and priesthood by virtue of His sacrificial death.
